    No offense, but …
No offense, but sitting on your behind for 8hrs or more a day intensively concentrating on transcribing peoples words verbatum is nothing to be envious of in my opinion. I don’t care if you live in a mansion or drive an expensive car. I knew a court reporter who used to be in my Toastmasters club. She struck me as a person who was an expert at only one thing… court reporting. Whenever she listened to people talk, her fingers would move involuntarily and tap on the table.

My wife’s been a reporter for twenty years. I’ve never met a reporter that made 100K.

    Currently in court …
Currently in court reporting school –yeah, not a good choice for the fainthearted. Salaries range, so do career choices in the USA-you can also branch out into broadcast or CART captioning. The good part is that you can freelance–be your own boss and maybe start your own firm and then own the copyrights to your transcripts and then sell them –$4 to $6.50 per page. And some trials’ transcripts are 100K pages.

    I’ve been a …
I’ve been a reporter for 23 years. The majority do not make that kind of money. You have to buy your own equipment, software, etc. Steno machines — $5,000. Software — $6,000. Add computer cost, licenses, seminars, etc. There may be a handful of reporters that make that money — not the norm. If you want a chance of making that much, you need to work 12- to 16-hour days & get the good copy jobs, which are hard to find these days. And you won’t have time to go to the beach & meditate.

    Don’t read this …
Don’t read this because this actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest by Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life however, if you do not post this comment to at least 3 videos you will die in 2 days. Now you’ve started reading this so don’t stop. This is so scary. Put this on at least 5 videos in 143 minutes when you’re done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works!

    You do realize that …
You do realize that this commercial is utter bullshit; don’t you? If you are a superstar, you’ll do quite well. Some attorneys make a couple of mill a year. The vast majority don’t. Understand? I’ve been a reporter for twenty years. The best part of the job is the freedom and flexibility. It also can be extremely stressful. Some days I have made 500 to a grand (and wanted to hang myself at the end of the day). At other times, I have made less than a cashier at McD’s (after a three hour commute)

  21. ricksteves07 says:

    LOL…. you are …
LOL…. you are right, this ISN’T true. I’m a court reporting student – 2 years now, and its not that easy AT ALL!!! Don’t believe its a 2 year program either. At least 4! South Coast IS a good school, but understand – its NOT easy like they show.

  22. sansaviera says:

    LOL Become a …
LOL Become a stenographer and you can drive a convertible and live on the beach.

Anyway I am considering this career. What’s the real deal? I’m in the north east and their are three schools in my area, whats the real pay scale for a major metropolis?

  23. enly10me says:

    It took me three …
It took me three years to complete school. It was by God’s grace that I came out with honors. It is a very, very intense course, and it can break the best of us. Many do not finish school.

However, if you are a person who likes a challenge and you tend to approach life with the attitude that failure is not an option, court reporting would be ideal for you. At your best, you can expect to make six figures and supercede the income of many of the doctors and lawyers that you work with.
